The Kingfisher Atlas of World History: A Pictorial Guide to the World's People and Events, 10,000BCE-Present
by Simon Adams
Ages 9-12 196 pages Kingfisher April 2010 Library binding

This unique history atlas covers a span from 10,000 BCE to the present as it examines all areas of human development - religion, exploration, war, colonization, kingdoms, famous historical figures, technology and much more.

Timelines accompany each central map, which feature picture icons relating historical information. Core topics are further developed in photographic feature spreads.

For example, the section devoted to the modern world offers 17 double-page maps plus four additional photo spreads on the Industrial Revolution, the world since 1800, the U.S. and the Great Depression, and the world today. The maps range from the British Empire 1800-1940, the Colonization of Africa 1800-1925 and World War I to the Cold War and the Middle East 1910-today.

This book makes a valuable resource for either home or school use. There’s so much to take in that readers of any age will spend hours mulling over all the maps this volume has to offer.
