The cloth finger puppet that comes attached to this board book makes the story interactive because the listener or the reader can make the main character (the crab) move around while the story is being read.
Each page has a circular diecut hole. As the pages are turned, the circles decrease in size. The latest book in this series of twelve shows a happy crab racing in the sand with his friends, a turtle and a hermit crab.
He then swims to the tide pool dotted with starfish and plants and sea urchins. After he swims underwater amongst the fish and seaweed (I crunch salty seaweed in the gentle waves), he returns back to the sandy beach where he digs a bed so he can nap with his family of five.
The design of this book is eye-catching, and the message is warm-hearted. The animals have fun throughout the day exploring their environment, but they always return home to be with their family.
Whenever I have a new book from this series on display for Baby Rhyme Time at the public library, they get signed out right away. I have heard nothing but positive things about these books when they are returned.
