The Zombies are coming, and the only way to save yourself is to keep your brains about you in this entertaining and interactive adventure book.

You are at home alone when the doorbell rings. When you open the door, you see Matt and Emma, who are in the same grade as you. They aren’t your friends, but your science teacher has assigned the three of you to work together. As you all discuss what your project will be, you suggest ‘plant biology.’ Matt responds by saying that “Plant biology is boring.” Just as you are about to rebuff him with some information about your neighbor, Crazy Dave, the door bursts open. In comes the crazy neighbor himself, and he has bad news: zombies are coming!

If you don’t have an iPhone or interactive device to participate in Plants and Zombies the highly technological way, do not despair! Author Tracey West has put together an interactive choose-your-own-adventure junior novel that allows readers to read along and, at various points, choose what action they want to take—whether it be planting Cherry Bombs, planting a row of Peashooters, looking for Emma or fighting the Zombies. Depending on your path, your adventure could lead to more perils and excitement and a final conquest—or you become a tasty morsel for the Zombies. Either way you go, the adventures can be replayed with numerous different outcomes.

While some PVZ game knowledge might help strategy, there are enough basic guidelines offered in the story itself. For example, you need sun to get your plants to sprout fast, and Bungee Zombies drop from the sky to steal the plants that are getting sun on the roof. Even without prior PVZ knowledge, though, the story is just plain fun for children ages eight years and up as they follow along Crazy Dave’s jibberish and the unthreatening illustrations of Zombies as they wander around chanting: “Braaaiiiiiins … braaaiiiiins …braaaaiiiiiins...”

Whether or not you are familiar with Plants vs. Zombies, Plant Your Path (Junior Novel) offers an enjoyable and diverting activity for readers who want to use their brains and play along.
